Who we are

Method Climbing Team prepares young competitive climbers for The USA Climbing Youth circuit, an annual series of indoor climbing competitions for bouldering, rope climbing, and speed climbing. It starts at the local level and builds all the way to the international stage. These competitions, as well as the sport of climbing itself, challenge kids to push through personal boundaries both mental and physical.

Climbing takes an incredible amount of mental fortitude, focus, and awareness; training to succeed at a competitive level in this sport takes bulletproof dedication and perseverance. It requires a steadfast hunger for self-improvement and a deep passion for the art form, as well as a high tolerance for failure and physical pain. For all these reasons, competitive climbing is not for everyone. To flourish in the competitive realm, we help develop traits not usually found in your average youth.

Meet the team

  • Jeremy Meza

    FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Jeremy has been climbing for 28 years and has spent 20 of those years coaching youth climbing. In those 20 years Jeremy has coached youth athletes to the nationally competitive level and has made 18 trips to nationals between the different disciplines in climbing.  Having coached football, baseball, martial arts, gymnastics, and climbing, he loves seeing the light bulb moment or the “Aha!” moment. The moment when it clicks, or all comes together. Additionally, Jeremy loves the duality of how lessons in climbing can be applied to so many aspects of life—commitment, emotional fortitude, discipline, work ethic, the list goes on. One of the most gratifying aspects of coaching for Jeremy is watching individuals that enter the sport, develop, and continue to move forward to their next chapter, applying the bigger quiver of knowledge to any challenges they face.

  • Justin Angeles-Perez

    VICE PRESIDENT

Justin Angeles-Perez is the assistant head coach to the Method Climbing Team. He has a total of 8 years of climbing experience with 3 years of coaching experience. Justin assisted in coaching the Best Overall Youth National Team in the 2022-23 season and is also an ambassador and moderator for the Asian Climbing Collective affinity group. Justin uses metaphors, movement cues, and mental reminders in his coaching to teach athletes on how to approach and process their climbing. During his free time (other than climbing), Justin loves  cooking, listening to music, reading books & manga, and playing video games.

  • Jose Enrique Gomez

    SECRETARY TREASURER

Enrique Gomez is an assistant coach with 6 years of climbing experience and a background in personal training. Prior to his time on the wall, Enrique spent hours on the track running middle to long distance events. It was this same process of seeking gradual self-improvement that caught his interest when he was first introduced to rope climbing in the Philippines. He now uses his attention to detail and positive energy to encourage athletes to try hard and develop healthy mindsets. If you can’t find him on the wall, you will usually find him on a treadmill, in the gym, or spending time catching up with friends. Enrique believes connection is a key aspect of coaching. He looks forward to getting to know each of his athletes as their own persons, not just as practitioners of their sport.
